The Avon Elementary kindergarten classes are collecting winter items for area families in need. The teachers are using the drive to teach their students about wants versus needs combined with goods and services.
"We are tying it in with our social studies curriculum," said kindergarten teacher Kelly Bierbaum. "Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between a need and a want, especially around the holiday season. Coats, hats and mittens might not seem like a fun gift, but for some kids in the area it's a real need."
