9.3 Legislative Report

Member Hansen reported: Discussed the upcoming legislative platform. One issue directly affecting our district is the funding inequity for districts similar in size to Albany.  Data was provided: 334 districts are in the state and Albany is ranked 310 in funding per pupil.  Also, there was discussion surrounding technology funding, especially in conjunction with supporting MCA testing.  Some discussion took place surrounding bullying legislation and seeking input from districts.  Next meeting is November 22nd.

9.4 Technology Committee Report

Member Hansen reported: There has been some new technology purchases made recently.  There was a lot of positive feedback around the iPad’s allocated to elementary grades.  The Chrome-books are being used at the high school, with two mobile carts available and being utilized heavily.  Schoolology and Weebley have been well received by students and staff.  Discussion was held surrounding striking a higher device per student ratio, as it has worked well in neighboring districts (Sartell currently has a 1-1 ratio) and some of the other surrounding benefits (space savings, text book savings, servers, etc).  Discussion took place surrounding some issues with the district’s network speed.  We are researching to identify the cause of the speed issue.
