• Thanks to Roto Chopper who donated 7 yards of mulch for the Albany Elementary Garden. And to Grace Alive Church for weeding the garden and spreading the mulch.

Staff also did a nice job considering the heat that was present in the first couple weeks of school.

• Principal Wege acknowledged two students that made it into the National Merit Scholar Program. Mason Dorseth and Robbie Hare are in the top 3 percent in the country for this distinction.  

• Teacher Amy Spohn, advisor for the Huskie Paws Program, and Sr. High student members were commended for leading this mentoring effort.

• Thanks you to the following businesses and organizations for their donations of school supplies for students in need: Avon State Bank, Blattner Family Council, McDonald’s, Salvation Army and an anonymous donor who left 6 backpacks full of supplies at Avon Elementary

9. Board Committee Reports

9.1 Health and Safety Committee 

Superintendent Dooley Reported about meeting held on August 15. A training session included a speaker who was the risk manager for the Dallas schools and went through the procedures in place in those schools. There is a safety team to be assembled for each of the buildings looking for concerns. The safety team will be assembled for preventative measures and for positive audit results (OSHA).   

-Kay Hanson has set up online training for staff.  Kay also gave a report on “code purple.” The team has responded well to emergencies.

10. Superintendent Report

• The school district audit is taking place and going well at this point. The completion of the audit will likely happen before the next school board meeting.

• The District took a look at our health insurance plan. There will be discussions taking place regarding the Affordable Health Care Act. Blue Cross and Blue Shield is also offering a high deductible plan with this renewal package.    

11. Closed Meeting To Discuss Negotiations Strategy with the Albany Federation of Teachers

• Motion by Dirkes, seconded by Winkels to close the meeting for the discussion on teacher negotiations.
